Always wanted to run the Conn river in spring high water from Northampton, MA all the way down to Long Island Sound. Got on my motorcycle and went and scouted the tricky spots. Also wanted to see how high the river actually is at 35,cfs (Holyoke).
I'm only used to cfs summer time levels. Found out Holyoke dam a pain to portage. Long. Took just short of 1/2 hr to get to the Mattabasset and my day just got nicer and nicer.
The only reason I rated this as moderate is the rougher water on the Ct. and then as I was talking to some guy further up river I realized the tides have some play in this river. T hey are great adventures on their own, but put canoeing and camping together and you have the makings for some remarkable memories.
